What Is the USDA BioPreferred Program?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) created the BioPreferred Program to increase the development and use of biobased products, increase the use of renewable agricultural resources, reduce reliance on petroleum, preserve the environment, and improve public health. Biobased products are made from plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials. These products do not include food, animal feed, or fuel. Everything from cleaning products and lubricants to fertilizers and bioplastics can be biobased.

SprinJene is now USDA BioPreferred-certified. This certification means that our natural toothpaste products are at least 83 percent natural with 93 percent natural packaging. This certification also meets all European Union standards for consumer health and beauty products. As of this writing, fewer than a dozen toothpaste brands are USDA BioPreferred-certified.

If you go the USDA BioPreferred Program Catalog web page and type “SprinJene” into the search field above the list of product categories, you’ll see that SprinJene natural toothpastes appear as USDA Certified Biobased products. • Biobased products displace around 300 million gallons of petroleum in the U.S. each year. This is the same as taking about 200,000 cars off the road.
• Reductions in emissions were estimated to be as high as 12.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2016.
• As of May 2018, there were more than 14,000 biobased products (including SprinJene natural toothpastes!) in the USDA BioPreferred Program catalog.
• In 2016, biobased products contributed $459 billion to the U.S. economy, up from $393 billion in 2014, and supported 4.65 million jobs. (Source)
